You chose the DAC, the amplifier and the speakers carefully. Then the factory chose the op-amp for you — and it chose on price.
What is actually in there
A chip designed in the 1970s.
NE5532, JRC4558, TL072 — competent, cheap, and fitted by the thousand. Every signal in your system passes through one.
Why you have not fixed it
Audio is full of expensive claims.
You have heard the promises before, and paid for a few. Being sceptical about a small upgrade is the correct instinct.
What it costs you
The next upgrade is a new box.
Most people replace the whole amplifier to chase what a chip was holding back — ten times the money, and the old one goes in a cupboard.
Why we build these
We were in that position too.
A good system, one cheap component in the signal path, and no honest way to know what it was costing. So we measured it, built the alternative, and recorded it — hear it before you spend anything.
Five minutes from now
Experience the transformation to your sound that €100 and five minutes of your time will bring.
No soldering, no modifications, nothing you cannot undo. Thirty days to decide whether it stays.
02 / Hear it, read it
Hear the difference, then read what others heard.

“The delta of sonic profile shifting available from strategic opamp rolling was unexpectedly large.”
Srajan Ebaen fitted three versions in his Audiophonics NCx500 nCore amp, swapped between them on repeat, and wrote up exactly what each one did.
“Unlike the oscilloscope deniers, my rolling showed very obvious changes. Ordinary lead ears will do just fine.” He called it “a very cost-effective way to scale up a value-priced amplifier platform.”
Recorded in our studio: three op-amps rolled through the same device at the same level, so what you hear is the chip and nothing else. Judge it with your own ears before you spend anything.
Use headphones or in-ear monitors. Laptop speakers will flatten exactly the differences you are listening for.
03 / The idea
Everyone talks discrete. We paralleled the best chips instead.
Discrete op-amps are built from separate components, and good ones sound genuinely fantastic. That is not in dispute.
But there is another route to the same — or even better — performance: take the best modern integrated op-amps available and run several in parallel, on a circuit designed for it.
The listeners most surprised by this are the ones who already own discrete op-amps: paralleled integrated op-amps do not merely come close — they often sound better. That is the claim we would rather you tested than believed.
All the dynamics and openness of V2, plus a layer of dense, rich sound with more present bass and deeper midrange immersion. The most organic of the four.
4 op-amps paralleled · stereo / dual Bipolar input · 170 mA THD 0.000015% @ 1 kHz · 22 V/µs Work temperature 70 °C
Same board and same footprint as Supersonic V1 and V2 — just red, and single-channel. “Mono” refers to the internal circuitry, not to mono-block amplifiers.
2 op-amps paralleled · mono / single Bipolar input · 70 mA THD 0.000015% @ 1 kHz · 27 V/µs Work temperature 65 °C
Most audio devices use voltage regulators rated between 500 mA and 1500 mA, which is already enough headroom.
4×
Supersonic V1 or V2 in an amplifier — safely, with no power-supply changes.
2×
Supersonic or Hypersonic Mono in most low-power DACs and preamps — the usual fit.
2×
Hypersonic in an amplifier on a typical regulator. Four is the absolute maximum.
5 min to fit — lift the old chip out, press the new one in, matching the orientation notch. No soldering, no tools.
Important — Hypersonic
Four per device, and give them air.
Hypersonic draws 0.17 A. Do not use more than four in one device, and do not use them in a sealed enclosure — more than four, or poor ventilation, risks overheating the host device.
Running temperature
More chips means more heat. We measured it.
Every paralleled op-amp runs warmer than the single chip it replaces — that is physics, not a fault. The machined anodised heatsink is there to carry it away, and these are the numbers under load.
Thermal camera view (°C), same device and same load. Supersonic left, Hypersonic right.
Supersonic V1 · V2 · Hypersonic Mono 65 °C
Hypersonic 70 °C
Supply voltage, every model ±5 – ±18 V
Warm to the touch is normal and within specification. What matters is airflow: leave the case vents clear, and if your device runs hot already, choose Supersonic over Hypersonic.

Out of curiosity I bought the Supersonic V1 and V2 for the Fosi ZD3 and ZA3 and compared them to Sparkos. I’m shocked — Supersonic was better. This combo easily won against the Audiolab 7000A and Marantz M1.

I replaced the standard op-amp in my ZeroZone mono amplifiers and the difference was immediately audible — clarity and micro detail, then the airiness and focus increased enormously. Bass is very clean and deep, in layers I had not heard before.

With the xDuoo XD05 Pro the Hypersonic reaches the same definition as the SS2590 but with greater richness, density and light. The richest, most defined sound I have obtained from it so far.

The old chip goes back in just as easily. That is the whole risk.
I am genuinely surprised and delighted at just what a huge difference with the V2 and V1 chip sets have made to my Fosi Audio ZA3 amplifier.
In every regard, the virtual hi-fi chip sets are a massive improvement on what is shipped from the factory. Given the cost, and the fantastic service. This is an absolute must for every audio enthusiast who has the opportunity to fit these chips.
I bought three chips in total, two V2’s and one V1.
The V2 is are used for both the left and right channels. The V1 is used for the subbase channel. I do not use a balanced XLR input.
Connected to my Fosi Audio ZA3 is a Fosi Audio GR40 Pre amp. This is fitted with a matched pair of vintage Siemens 6AK5W valves. Everything is connected with the highest quality QED interconnect cables. Driving a pair of vintage JBL control monitor reference speakers, that I have recently refurbished with the highest quality replacement components. The audio source is Apple Music in Apple lossless codec at 24 bit 98 kHz through a WiiM pro streamer.
The difference that the V1 has made to the base channel, is possibly the greatest improvement overall that I was not expecting. I’m not sure many people have used this combination? But at the time of ordering I figured that for the sake of €20 I might as well do something to add to my 2.1 stereo system. I’m so utterly grateful that I did the fullness and the completeness of the base is significant enough for me to feel the need that I have to actually turn the crossover point down.
The V2 chips on both left and right channel, have made my speakers feel and sound as though they are twice the size that they are. I think this is possibly the best description of what the V2 is actually do. They take what you know in terms of the signature sound and they just make everything wider bigger deeper and clearer. Whatever sound system you have however big your speakers are your sound stage your clarity and the precision will simply feel twice the size. Given the cost of my current system, the ability for me to have restored some old component speakers, and now driving them with what effectively as a relatively simple system that has been augmented by some very choice and well chosen aftermarket chips and valves. My simple system that was just going to be in my study as something just for me to have in the background while I was working. Now arguably sounds better than some of the highest and most expensive sound systems I’ve ever experienced. I didn’t believe I’d ever been in a lifetime where I could’ve ever said that sentence out loud let alone put it here as a review.
Fosi Audio, ready to make some astonishingly good and very cheap competent audio gear. And virtual hi-fi really have worked out the most effective and reasonable cost solution to amplifying and engaging what is already a very competent system into something which is truly astonishing at this price point.
I really wouldn’t hesitate to recommend virtual hi-fi for their service their price their commitment and their quality.
In terms of sound stage and quality, accuracy and detail at this point point in the combination that I have chosen I cannot imagine that I could’ve ever improved on what I have. I am genuinely thrilled and I have listened non-stop for the last few weeks to everything in my enormous music library. The absolute joy that I now have rediscovering albums that are remastered in the highest quality that I now have a simple system in my study that seems to blow everything I’ve ever owned out of the water. I’ve had great fun taking everything apart replacing valves and chips. Restoring old vintage JBL speakers and connecting at all. I wish you the same journey, and virtual hi-fi, thank you once again keep up the brilliant work!! 👍
THese Supersonic V2 are INCREDIBLE. No, I'm not trying to board or push a hype train; I really mean it. I put them in Fosi ZP3 Preamp and for the first couple of days thought I had made a huge mistake. The first couple of hours, the beautiful transparency of the ZP3 got veiled. It wasn't good. Additionally, for the first several days, my system had become quite fatiguing - so I just turned down the volume and let these babies run for the next 4 days and by the end of the week it was pure magic as they settled in. The depth, width, and height extended over what was previously pretty outstanding additionally the bass picked up more authority without any bloat or bleed - I'm a fan
Items arrived well packaged safe and sound and I'm happy to say that I like the improvement in the sound quality of my ampapa Q1 dac withe the supersonic v2 used in the ess sabre sockets
I just purchased my new Ampapa Q1 DAC by Douke Audio, and It gives you a choice of two different DAC chips to choose from. two different types of sounds and also its kind of like tube rolling so you can also do some op Amp rolling by just lifting the glass cover on top and easily pull the op amps out of there and a total of 4 op amp spots, two for the ESS side and two for the AKM side and carefully put in a choice of two different other brand op amps for the AKM side and two different other brand op amps for the ESS side or even 4 of all the same brand, I could not fit 4 Virtual Hifi V2s op amps into the Q1 due to the design of the Q1 and not the V2 chips. AT a cost of 39 dollars apiece. so only two of them with tax/shipping. was around 100 dollars and is very well worth it at a much lower cost for the high-quality sound which was compared to the highly reviewed 3602 sparkos or the Burson v7s. around 200 dollars a pair. I will probably purchase a set of Ether to try later but the sound coming from the Virtual Hifi V2s are giving me such a beautiful sound so do I really want to spend a lot more $$$ for a small sound difference. this is coming from reviewers and not just me who compared them on you tube reviews.
The 3602 Sparkos I think will fit into the Ampapa Q1 with maybe a little tightness fit in all 4 slots due to the width compared to the Hight restrictions of the Burson's op amps,
the last one slot on the right side, is a tight squeeze and you will not get a Tall op amp in there like the Burson v6s or v7s due to they are just too tall unless you just leave the glass cover off but you will still not get it in the very right side dip8 slot unless you modify by cutting the box. After exchanging the stock op amps for the Virtual HIFI V2 chips which are the taller blueish green colored op amps and due fit in up to the glass but you can still close the lid with the V2s. and put in a set of OPA- 1656 smaller sized chips on the right side.to fit better on the right inside slot to get the sound to open up and you could feel the space in between the instruments. these fit nicely inside the Ampapa Q1 you could even try the V1 super sonics chips to start with and they are cheaper too. My review is based on the Ampapa Q1 DAC only but there are other components that will fit a lot of all other taller and higher end chips. My Ampapa Q1 is connected to a Emotiva XPA-2 300-watt per channel power amp which then is connected to a pair of Magnapan .7 speakers which really need the power to make the sound so sweet and airy voices and will put you in a space of your own and you will be so fixated on the sound and especially women's s voices and male singing or contemporary jazz. Eventually I will try Virtual Hifi's higher quality chips, but I will need a bigger DAC to fit them but right as of now the sound is amazing coming from the V2 op AMP chips. Just listen to the female voice singers on the album called. Dark R&B Confessions.
I have one word for the Virtual HiFi Supersonic V-2 and the is WOW WOW WOW! (wait that might be 3 words) I put them in my Line Magnetic LM-502CA older Dac and the detail and sound is so much faster and cleaner, more detailed. 5-star highly recommended to bring life to an older Dac. Thanks again
Arrived well packaged and in great condition within the estimated delivery date, in fact it was a couple of days early. Haven't used it yet as I'm waiting on another to be delivered before I try them out.
It was a real sound improvement and wauw really good! I put some Qauntum stickers on it so it sound is improved more! Even with the stock tubes that came with the unit. It still sounded magnificent with the Op-Amps! A really premium sound for a great price! I wonder how the higher tier Op-Amps sounds?
Thanks for your great Op-Amps 🙏🏽
The V2s make the ZD3 a much better player. First off all the sound isn't bloated anymore, air circulates, sound gets proper body and weight but not at the expense of openness. I mean the body and weight of a piano, a string, a drum,.. their presence. There is also more detail and more depth. These leads to a much realistic, natural and mature sound. There are dynamics and rapidity to the sound. Due to holidays I just used them 2 weeks but I expect further improvements. My main fear before ordering came from reviews stating the bass is "very prominent" because I have bass management problems in my small room with parallel walls. It is not that prominent yet I have to turn down the bass knob of my Douk T8 PRO Equalizer another few dB compared to the original ZD3. Let's see what happens with more burn-in. I just need more time with them to turn my 4 stars rating into 5 stars yet this is already a very welcomed upgrade. All in all, it reminds me what happened when i used a good power conditioner on my former system : so, parallellng opamps = massive noise reduction ? The accompaning FOSI ZA3 shown on the photo is equiped with OPA1656 which is really good (as is the DOUK) because the improvements brought by the V2s on the ZD3 are clearly apparent. Yet it naturally calls for opamp upgrade too considering what the V2s has brought to the sound (but tube rolling on the DOUK first...)
Swapping the op-amps improved the DAC sound quality. The wider bandwidth, and lower noise, to my ears provided a cleaner mid-range sound. I am not a bass heavy listener.
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I haven't heard everything! My Fosi ZD3 is totally upgraded now, the RCA outputs to subwoofers, the balanced outputs to the Qualio IQ speakers. I like the way it sounds better than the Laiv micro dac I was comparing it with, which I no longer use.
Using the V2’s in Fossi V3 mono amps on the rca to xlr conversion….creates a more ‘attack’ in a good way to the sound.
More space and wider in the soundstage, perfect, it rund hot. Previous I had some bigger opamps and therefore had to cut the housing of the mono amps…creates extra cooling fir this one.
In Fosi ZD3 key difference in sound of Supersonic V2 opamps to B. V7V Dual opamps is much more pleasant (natural) tonality of Supersonic V2s. Outside of that these opamps are called “concert like sounding” because they really separate intruments wonderfully. There is feel of emptiness around all the separated instruments, which hypersonic opamps would change to more coherent and full (especially in the center) image, but I think of it as a trait of Supersonic V2 opamps: to deliver excellent instrument separation while keeping tonality that leaves competition in dust.
My system: Most of my audio sources come through my Smart TV. That's hooked to a Bacch4Mac 3d audio processor that is in turn hooked to a Fosi ZD3 Dac, upgraded with the opamps, that is hooked to a Benchmark AHB2 amp. The amp drives Qualio IQ speakers. I have 2 Rhythmik 12" Servo Subs that are hooked directly
to the Fosi Dac. It all sounds fantastic.
I was comparing the Fosi Dac with a Laiv Micro Dac, but liked the opamp upgraded Fosi better than the Laiv, which I returned.
Great op amp in a fosi
Better soundstage and more detail in the upper range.
The bass is a lot tighter and faster than before
Thank you so much for making a great op amp
I’m using the supersonic v2 in my Burson Funk amp, as it tilts more towards the higher end and soundstage is wider/more instrument separation I use it on the headphones channel as my ‘sound microscope’ and to give a different flavour to the speakers amp side.
On Greg's advice I chose the Supersonic V2. At the time of writing this review I have been using it for 4 days. (10-3-2025)
I replaced the standard opamp in the ZeroZone mono amplifiers and it was an immediately audible difference.
I immediately can hear the clarity and micro details in the music. After a few days of playing this has increased further.
The airiness and focus have increased enormously. The bass is very clean and deep and in layers that I have not heard before.
One month later the sound increased further.
especially the airiness and details are so nice. Inbetween I did for a few days put the original opamp in the amplifier but after the sound difference was so big that I changed it again and now stays in the amplifier.
I was running a single Sparkos 3602 in the number 2 space. I bought a set of VH V2's and put the V2 in slot 2 and moved the Sparkos to slot 3. This seemed to compress the music a lot, and I didn't really like the sound. So I moved the Sparkos back to slot 2, and put the V2 in slot 3, what a difference, it has amazing sound. Better punch in the low end, and increased mids and highs. I will experiment with just straight V2's and see if I like it better.
Highly recommend the V2's.
I am impressed
by the huge soundstage, deep, pleasant
bass and overall resolution. it should be noted that the op amp is new,
burned. I believe that after burning it will be even better. In addition,
its shape fits perfectly into the 3e audio a7 mono amplifier. problems with high temperature in this amplifier do not occur due to the holes cut for the op amp. I believe that with time it will be better and better
The goods arrived in a very short time. I highly
recommend!!!
Beaucoup plus de détails, grosse amélioration des médiums, basse plus présentes, le tout est équilibré et dynamique, sans fatigue auditive.
L'écoute est devenu très agréable.
After watching numerous videos on amp upgrades and becoming slightly obsessed with what they can do, I decided to reach out via email and asked the question.
I told him I recently acquired Fosi V3 Monos x2, and as much as they are good, I feel as though I am missing depth, bass and tonal clarity regarding soft vocals. I am running Dali Opticon 6 with them and backed up by a 500w sub.
Now my issue has been either amps I have switched between either offer clarity and no bass, or bass and lacks clarity, and I love music but spending 2k+ on a high end amp has always been beyond my reality.
With the fosis I get more per channel and the seperation was obvious. But again, I can hear I am still missing freaquencies, and bass I can tell when my speakers are crossing over (loss/lack of bass), then hearing the sub take over. The rollover gap as I cursed it has bugged me.
So when I discovered these I emailed and explained in brief what I have and what I need/want as it is.
He recommended Supersonic V2s and I went ahead and purchased them. I was apprehensive as I am always on a budget these days.
They arrived 2 days ago (roughly a week since purchase-I'm in UK) which is good.
The V2s once set up were as hoped, my tonal balance, bass and clarity are seriously improved. I can no longer truly tell when my sub is matching my speakers! Dynamic and punchy. They are definately NOT getting returned lol.
Thank you
I ordered a large set of opamps from Virtual HiFi to test different configurations and compare them directly with the opamps I already had (Muses 02, Sparkoslabs SS3602, etc.). I don’t want this to sound like a paid review, but in my system, these opamps are a game changer. I spent a lot of time comparing and searching for the best configuration. My tests were conducted using a Fosi setup (ZD3 + V3 mono) with an Acoustic Invader Preamp. The Fosi system was great as a tool for testing and exploring sound.
The full signal path for one channel, from the DAC to the power amp (via XLR), has four opamp slots, with each slot having less priority and influence the further it is from the source. Thanks to this arrangement, there is a huge scope for shaping the sound! It takes some effort to fit everything, but in the end, the result met my expectations, and after 5 months of actively searching for equipment, I was already losing hope. I can’t outright suggest “just buy Supersonic V2 because V1 isn’t good enough” since each has its unique character. However, I can say that in my case, the opamps from Virtual HiFi filled every slot in my system and outperformed every opamp I previously had (Muses 02, Sparkoslabs SS3602, etc.).
Virtual HiFi V2 - is the opamp I used the most. It provides a very wide, precise soundstage, and the sound is lively and very dynamic, offering a great sense of spatial imaging. I recommend trying different configurations because, even though V1 initially felt too warm for me, in the right setup, it became an inseparable part of my system.
Sounds lifelike. Even better than the Sparkos which I have retained in a second set of Fosi amps. I can’t believe what a difference your opp amps make. Currently using the Eversolo but about to upgrade preamp and DAC.
This is the easiest 5 star review I’ve ever given. I “had” an Aiyima A07 amp and decided to supe it up with a pair of Supersonic V2’s. The effects weren’t subtle and immediate. Everything tightened up, it gained separation and a width that wasn’t there before. Voices seemed to float and details became clearer. Colour me impressed! I say “had” because as soon as I realised how much hifi I could get from such a little desktop system I sold the Aiyima and upgraded to a Fosi ZD3 and a pair or ZA3 mono’s. I took the V2’s and used them in the ZD3 which is sounding better by the day as they run in. I can see another purchase in the near future and although the ZA3’s have 3 op-amp a piece it’ll probably be worth the investment.
Only first impressions as have only listened for about 10 hours, have noticed a significantly wider soundstage which is a positive, however have also noticed a lack of energy from before, a slight loss of dynamics, this maybe because of my amp and speakers being a bit on the warm side and perhaps they need a bit more running in.
Happy with the service , packaging and quality ot the parts. I have not yet installed them because I am now a bit nervous about taking the pre amp apart but will be "Going For It" very soon since I am excited to hear the difference the upgrade op amps make.
Recently I purchase a Douk Audio Ampapa Q1 Dac with the dual DAC chips, ESS and AKM. The intention was to put the V2s on the AKM side and the V1s on the the ESS side. I prefer the sound of the AKM. Unfortunately the Op amps didn't fit in the AKM side due to the chassis design of the DAC. So I put the V2s on the ESS side. The ESS side is my new favorite. Now I need to buy another device to use the V1s. I'm sure that's a good excuse to buy more gear.
What incredible bang for the buck value?? I would never believe how good this little gem is until I heard it for myself. I installed a pair of V2 SuperSonics into the least expensive kit I own, Fosi Audio ZD3. It already had a pair of class a discrete op amps installed, an Ian Canada Ultracap mini power supply and a sanitized network feed. All mods improved the dac and tilted it’s character towards a musical personality but the V2 Supersonic really shattered the glass ceiling. I’m pretty sure no one would ever guess that they are listening to a sub $200 dac until the truth is unveiled. Btw all this gushing is not from a place of limited experience. On the contrary I’ve been in the high end audio industry for over 45 years, a former shop owner and deep listener since my oldest brother spun Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone in ‘65.
I’m so grateful to Virtual Hifi for bringing this incredible level of musical enjoyment to this new level of accessibility!!!
It was hard for me to figure out if there was difference before applying the op amps on Fosi ZH3. But when I heard it I started to hear everywhere the differences. I really liked the new experience I started to have.
