High-end audio has gone insane

High-End Audio prices are ridiculous. Speakers are gigantic and overwhelm the living room. Most high-end systems still don’t sound like a real concert. And if your partner prefers small speakers?

Forget it — unless you're ready to sacrifice scale, dynamics, and freedom of system tuning.

You deserve big, emotional, live sound without the giant boxes and without the luxury tax.

Let’s be honest: high-end audio today suffers from three major problems — and everyone feels them.

1. The price problem

€30,000… €50,000… €100,000 for a pair of loudspeakers.

And what do you get?
  • MDF boxes with shiny paint
  • mediocre drivers
  • marketing fantasy
  • performance that rarely matches the promise
High-end audio pricing is simply not grounded in reality anymore.

2. The size problem (WAF included)

Most brands tell you: “Want big sound? You must buy big loudspeakers.”

Result:
  • huge cabinets dominating your room
  • interior design takes a punch to the face
  • your partner hates the look
  • and even then — many don’t sound truly “big”
The living room turns into a “speaker showroom” and you still don’t get that live concert scale.

3. The freedom problem (Active systems trap you)

To achieve real dynamics and scale, manufacturers push you toward active speakers. But here’s the catch:
  • You lose the freedom to choose your amplifier
  • You lose the ability to tune your system
  • You depend entirely on the built-in electronics
  • When the amp fails, the entire speaker becomes useless
  • You cannot upgrade, experiment, scale, or refine your sound
Active means zero flexibility — and more often than not that’s not the way for most of us.

And despite all that…
 The sound is still often:
  • compressed
  • flat
  • uninvolving
  • lacking physicality
Where is the big, emotional, live-scale experience?

The real question:

Why can’t you have compact speakers that deliver huge, concert-level performance at a fair price and with full system freedom?

They didn’t exist.

So COBRA was created to fix it.

COBRA

COBRA is a ground-up redesign of what a high-end loudspeaker should be.

It delivers:
  • the physical impact of a large floorstander
  • the scale of a full-range system
  • the air and holography of an open-back dipole
  • the precision of a studio monitor
  • and the freedom of a fully passive design
All in a compact footprint that fits any room — and any interior. COBRA exists because you deserve big sound, not big speakers.

The Engineering

Cobra uses the finest 7" drivers, supercharged by twelve passive radiators and housed in acoustically dead 3D-printed composite cabinets. With ultra-premium crossover parts and pure signal paths, Cobra delivers explosive bass, flawless detail, and a sound born from true dark-arts engineering.

  •  4× long-throw 7" carbon fibre Epique drivers
  • 12× long-throw 7" carbon fibre Epique passive radiators
  • Equivalent surface area of a 15-inch subwoofer
  • Ultra-damped 3D-printed composite cabinet
  • Open-back Mundorf AMT on isolated suspension
  • Silver WBT NextGen connectors
  • Extreme Quality crossover parts

1. Massive displacement in a compact box
Each COBRA speaker uses:
  • 2 Dayton Epique long-throw 7" drivers (19mm Xmax)
  • 6 matching Epique 7" passive radiators (19mm Xmax)
This creates the moving air of a 15.5-inch subwoofer — with far lower distortion and better transient speed.

 2. A cabinet designed like no other
 Cabinets are built from:
  • 5mm PETG high dampening 3D printed shell
  • 5mm structural rib bracing to ensure high rigidity
  • cavities filled with 35A elastomer + stainless steel micro-particles
This creates a highly damped CLD (Constrained Layer Damping) composite structure where vibrations are converted into heat and panel resonance is reduced to nearly zero — resulting in an enclosure that is effectively silent. And all of this is achieved with only 10 mm wall thickness

Thanks to the 5 mm PETG shell combined with a 5 mm internal diamond-brace grid filled with 35A elastomer loaded with stainless steel micro-particles, the Cobra enclosure is over 10× more effective at suppressing vibration than a traditional 22 mm MDF cabinet.
It also preserves almost 20% more internal volume, allowing deeper bass and greater output from the same footprint.
The box disappears — only the music remains.

 3. Open-back Mundorf AMT on top
Mounted on a 3D printed Elastomer TPU isolation frame, not the cabinet.Benefits:
  • Superb vibration isolation
  • pure, airy treble
  • massive holography
  • perfect time alignment
A small speaker shouldn’t sound this big — but COBRA does.

Magic of Passive Radiators

What’s a Passive Radiator?

A passive radiator is a speaker cone with no magnet. It moves from air pressure inside the box and adds extra deep bass without ports or a big enclosure.

Why They Matter
At low frequencies, passive radiators act like extra woofers.
In Cobra, twelve radiators behave like a 15-inch bass driver  hidden inside each Cobra monitor — giving huge, clean bass.

Why Others Don’t Use Them

They’re expensive. A port costs a few dollars. Cobra’s radiators cost €840.
Most brands skip them. High-end brands? No idea — the performance gains are enormous.

What’s a Passive Radiator (and Why It Matters)?

A passive radiator is basically a speaker cone without a magnet. It moves only because the air inside the enclosure pushes and pulls it. When the main driver moves, it changes the internal air pressure — and that pressure makes the passive radiators move.

The real magic happens at the resonant frequency, the point where the radiator and the air in the box bounce together naturally. Here, the radiator moves in sync with the main driver and produces a large amount of bass energy.

In simple terms:

A passive radiator turns air pressure into extra low-frequency sound, letting a small speaker produce deeper, louder bass without ports or a huge box.

Why Passive Radiators Are So Important
At bass frequencies, passive radiators behave like additional active woofers equal to their combined surface area.

In Cobra, the twelve radiators effectively create the output of a 15-inch woofer inside each tiny monitor. They also let the main driver work in a much smaller enclosure, because the radiators provide the needed “spring” and excursion that normally require a large internal air volume.

A smaller internal volume results in tighter, faster, more controlled bass.

So Why Doesn’t Everyone Use Them? Because they’re expensive.

A basic bass-reflex port costs a few dollars. Each high-performance Epique passive radiator costs €70 — Cobra uses twelve, totalling €840 in radiators alone. For normal consumer speakers, that’s impossible to justify.

And for many high-end brands? Let’s just say their avoidance of passive radiators is… difficult to explain, given how much they improve performance when cost is no object.

Magic of Mundorf AMT

The Mundorf AMT25D1.1 — A World-Class Tweeter

With over 13× the radiating area of a standard dome tweeter and dipole radiation that fills the room from both sides, the AMT25D1.1 delivers unmatched speed, detail, and realism.
Filtered through Jantzen Amber copper-foil capacitors and mounted on an elastomer-damped frame to eliminate vibrations, it reveals high frequencies with absolute purity.

Why the Mundorf AMT25D1.1 Is So Special

The Mundorf AMT25D1.1 is one of the finest tweeters ever made.

Its pleated diaphragm provides a radiating surface over 13× larger than a typical 1" dome tweeter. More radiating area means more air movement, more effortless dynamics, and a room filled with clean, natural high-frequency energy.

Because it’s a dipole AMT, it radiates sound both forward and backward, effectively doubling the acoustic output and creating a huge, open soundstage no dome tweeter can match.

Ultra-High-End Crossover Components

To extract the full potential of this tweeter, Cobra uses Jantzen Amber Series copper-foil capacitors — among the most neutral transparent, high-resolution capacitors in the world.

These ensure the AMT sees an ultra-pure, noise-free signal with zero grain or harshness.

Vibration-Free Mounting for Maximum Clarity

The AMT is mounted on top of the cabinet, not inside it, using a custom elastomer isolation frame.
This completely decouples the tweeter from cabinet vibrations, dramatically lowering distortion and preserving the AMT’s microscopic detail and transient speed.

The result is a top end that feels weightless, holographic, and astonishingly real.

Ultra High-End Components

COBRA uses components found in €30k–€100k speakers:

  • Mundorf AMT Tweeter
  • Dayton Epique Carbon fibre drivers & passive radiators
  • Jantzen Litz coils
  • Jantzen Amber copper capacitors
  • ClarityCap PUR capacitors
  • Mundorf Supreme non-inductive resistors
  • WBT NextGen silver terminals
  • Duelund internal cabling

Most high-end speakers hide entry-level components behind luxury cabinets.
    COBRA does not.
    No shortcuts.
    No marketing tricks.
COBRA is built like a €30,000+ speaker — but sold for €16'900.
